Set in a natural wooded area in the mountainous, very rural eastern side of Joetsu, this thatch-roofed building has been rebuilt as a center where local people provide hands-on training in the traditions of the region. The sunken irori hearth is the centerpiece for the fun, enjoyable sessions, which include country cooking and craft-making.
Courses
Basket-making, using wild vines 2,200 Yen
Cooking: sasadango (sweet rice and yomogi leaf dumpling stuffed with red bean jum), sasasushi (sushi spread on sasa leaves), oshizushi (pressed sushi),etc. 2,750 Yen
Reservations are required; for groups of four or more. Transportation is available.

Eight different farms have joined together to provide a place where people can sample and purchase some 25 delicious varieties of grapes. These include a variety known as Muscat Bailey A, developed in the 1920s for wine production by Zenbei Kawakami, the founder of Iwanohana Vineyard.

A facility run by local people focused on teaching traditional Japanese cooking. The friendly instructors mean that even first-timers will be enjoy making delicious and genuine dishes. Also manufactures and sells product made from local vegetables.
