Abduction Issue - Niigata Prefecture's Appeal
Niigata Prefecture's Appeal
Of all the prefectures in Japan, Niigata prefecture in particular is deeply linked to the abduction
issue as five out of seventeen individuals who are recognized as abduction victims by the
Japanese government are affiliated with Niigata prefecture.
Also, repatriated abductees and their families live in the prefecture. This being the case, it is the
earnest wish of Niigata prefecture and its citizens that the issue be resolved.
The abduction issue is the direct concern of the citizens of Niigata prefecture. It involves Niigata
citizens and abduction victims Megumi Yokota and Miyoshi Soga, as well as suspected victims
such as Takashi Osawa.
We demand the immediate return of all the abduction victims.
Niigata Prefecture
The world is increasingly aware of the abduction issue. As shown at international conferences and
summit meetings, Japan's claim has gathered the support of the international community.
Additionally, the United Nations Commission on Human Rights has recently adopted a resolution
on the situation of human rights in North Korea, which called upon the North Korean government
to address international concern about violations of human rights including the abduction of
foreigners.
Towards achieving progress in the abduction issue, individual voices of people throughout the world
who earnestly seek a resolution will be the greatest factor. These voices will also heavily support
abduction victims and their families. We sincerely ask for the abduction issue to be recognized as
an immediate concern and ask for your continuous support toward a resolution.
